Week 9 Post 3 - Two Concepts Of Creativity
Henry Romain
My response to my learning is that I feel like I am encountering some really interesting and peculiar information. Especially the bit about the illustrator who lost her crystalline memory and then couldn't illustrate anymore. That seems to counter the idea of having no influence like Rei Kawakubo. Rei didn't study fashion history, and nobody was making clothes as outlandish or anywhere similar to the clothes she was making. She credits her ideas to simply her discipline and rigorous work ethic. I seem to have two conflicting theories of creativity. I should decide what theory of creativity I want to research in the future, which will likely be the idea of being creative without influence.
I kind of posed this question in my 2nd post in week 9, but it is my main question and a sort of counterargument to the idea of creativity requiring prior knowledge and influence. If creativity requires knowledge of prior ideas, where did those ideas come from? And where did the ideas that inspired those ideas come from? What were the first creative ideas that influenced other ideas?

Has this week changed your focus of your working thesis?
ReplyDeleteI think with this week I got a little off track of what I had intended to research but it was still interesting and relevant. My focus has not changed.
