Week 6 Post 1 - Intentions and Inspirations
- Kid Cudi's mission statement for why he makes music is "to help kids not feel alone and stop kids from killing themselves." Cudi's creative intentions for his music is not to just make music to get the fame and money, but because he wants to do something that will impact people and hopefully make a difference in kids' lives. Cudi dealt with depression, loneliness, low self-worth and suicidal thoughts for most of his life and to him, there was no one to guide him or coach him out of that place. In his music, "KIDS SEE GHOSTS" most prevalently, he strives to be a guiding force that helps kids learn that they are not alone. (Source 1)
- Kanye's intention behind entitling his 2018 album "Ye" was because he wanted to communicate the idea that this album, which delves deep into Kanye's personal life and struggle with mental issues, is a reflection of everybody listening to it, of society. "Ye" in the bible means you and he is saying that his struggles can be found in and shared with all his fans. (Source 1)
- As a comedian, Jerry Seinfeld's intentions for creating jokes are to make the audience laugh. Writing jokes is no easy process, and Seinfeld's advice on how to create "better" jokes is simply to create them every day. He has said to get a 365-day calendar, and every day you engage in whatever creative thing you are doing, in his case jokes, put an X on that day. Once you have a noticeable chain of Xs on the calendar, your only goal is to not break the chain. "Showing up enough times to get the average ideas out of the way."
- Larry David carries around a small notebook with him to write down ideas whenever they come to him. Then he transcribes these ideas to another book where he can connect different ideas together to produce a show, movie, scene, etc. These could be just ideas or documentation of his life experiences, no matter how mundane. Larry does not make scripts for his episodes, but he makes outlines that convey what he wants the cast of the episode to say (example of reduction). His intention for not having a script is to create authenticity and spontaneity in the actors. Larry also has his direction of his scenes lack style and prevalence, because he wants the audience to focus on the story rather than the directing.

I like that you are incorporating other creative people in your research. Will you add visual artists too? Fashion?
