Week 5 Post 1 - Defining a Creative Person

Henry Romain

   - Definition of a creative person: a person who creates. Not one who copies, steals, imitates, or otherwise recreates other's work in a non-transformative way. (Creative Quest)

   - To deal with "writer's block", one could leave the idea of creating alone and engage in other activities because there is always a chance for inspiration present among even the smallest things. Have your pen and pad ready for when inspiration comes, be ready to create. (MF DOOM Interview)

   - In the process of creating "Flower Boy", Tyler, The Creator came up with song ideas based on emotions and asking himself questions like "How am I feeling today?", "What if I go poor again?", and answering these questions in his songs. In one of these songs, "911/Mr. Lonely", the final version that was released was the 25th iteration. This version took inspiration from previous iterations but also used a beat from a runway show Tyler held for his brand Golf Wang. The first track on this album, "Foreword", was intended to have the listener understand the kinds of thoughts Tyler is having at the time of creating this album. (Tyler, The Creator Interview)

   - Kendrick Lamar's creative process starts with "Premeditated Thoughts". He goes into the studio with one of these thoughts he has thought about for what could be months and is ready to create music based on the way he feels from these thoughts. In the studio, he finds the exact sound that triggers that emotion or thought.

   - Kanye West announced at one point that he was quitting music altogether to work on fashion. H ended up in Rome working with Fendi and there he gained inspiration to work on music again. He moved to Hawaii for 6 months to create "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" as well as his label G.O.O.D. Music. Kanye claims that overall, 5000 hours of work between people went into every song on that album. Many, many different prototypes of the songs were made and remade to achieve the desired sound. Kanye questioned traditional radio songs by creating songs that were 5 to even 9 minutes long as a way to rebel against what certain people wanted from him.
