Week 3 Post 2 - Buidling Your Brand
To have a successful business, customers' needs are a vital influence in shaping the product. Social media while it is not the only way, is a great platform for fans and customers alike to communicate what they want from an artist or brand, and this feedback could be essential in releasing a product that appeals to customers. The entire experience of using a product should be considered, not just the focal function of the product (example: making hospital equipment kid friendly by presenting it as fun so that the kids are not scared). In a business team, it is more important to hire people in lower positions first so that when managers are hired stuff gets done rather than the manager having to wait for more people to become involved. Critics are essential in a team to refine ideas and point out negative aspects of a product no one else may have noticed. As the owner(s) of a brand mature, the brand most often matures along with them. In terms of music, an artist's message may change or they may want to present a new message in their music and thus they create a new aesthetic and feel to their music. As Puff Daddy changed into P. Diddy, his business life matured from owning a record label to investing in Cîroc vodka and other expensive alcohols. In mature businesses, the vibe and feel of business interactions are more impactful than the product itself (buying a Rolex). In startups, engage with your customers who support you from the get go to create a loyal following who will help grow your brand and keep coming back. In music, this means making the audience feel as important in the crowd as you are on the stage (Queen Live Aid).
In the creative process, feedback from fans can help you shape ideas you had never thought of or refine what you are already working on. Although feedback is important, it should not take precedence over YOUR intentions for the work and what you want it to be. In a creative team, try to put people who think differently in a room together and see what they come up with. They will be more creative than a group of people who all think the same. When creating a product for a brand , think about the entire process of buying that product and how you could curate it to feel good to the customer. When presenting yourself/performing, clear your mind of all distractions as to have nothing on your mind than what you are doing and this will present you in your truest, rawest state. Artists should consider what they want their audience to feel when experiencing their artwork, whether it be a painting, sculpture, song, or anything else. It is important to not only create art that expresses your emotions, but to do it in a way that will communicate them to the audience effectively.
